Keyes planned and
took part in the Heligoland Bight operation in August 1914. Early in 1915, he became chief
of staff to Admiral Carden, who was in command of the Dardanelles Assault, and served,
with his successor Admiral De Robeck.
Keyes appointed to the command of the Dover Patrol.
He became the director of Zeebrugge and Ostend attacks on 23 June 1918. He served at the
parliament between 1925-1928.
During Second World War, Keyes returned to Army and
appointed Director of Combined Operations. In January 1943, he was created Baron Keyes of
Zeebrugge and Dover. He died in 1945.
