COBANLI, CEVAT
        (1871-1938)

Cevat Cobanli was one of the famous soldiers of the Ottoman Army and political leaders of Turkey. He was born in Istanbul, in 1871. He graduated from the Academy of War, in 1894. He joined to the Italian-Ottoman War and the Balkan Wars. During the First World War, he commanded the Ottoman Forces in the Gallipoli and the Galichia Fronts.

After the First World War, Cevat Cobanli became the Minister of War (1918-1919) he continued this duty until he was banished to Malta by the British, in 1920.

After the declaration of the Republic, he was elected as the Elazig Deputy of the new government, in 1923. In the same year, he was designated as the commander of the Third Army Corps. He represented Turkey during the negotiations of United Nation, on Iraq and Musul Questions. His became full general in 1926. He died in 1938.
